MAKEUP APPLICATION

Elvis Presley. A name synonymous with music history, rebellion, and a captivating stage presence. When I got the call to work on Elvis, I was thrilled as this is my third time working on a Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin film. I knew this wouldn't be just another film; it would be a transformative story.

This project presented a unique twist. The initial design concepts were masterfully crafted by two talented Italian artists, and in the spirit of collaboration I focused on bringing these exceptional makeup designs to life as key makeup.

TRANSFORMING

Alton Mason

I worked with Alton Mason and enhanced his good looks into the electrifying Little Richard through meticulously crafted makeup elements, from the distinctive eyeliner and exaggerated eyebrows to complicate his perfectly styled pompadour hair.

The attention to detail was about capturing Little Richard's iconic look and vibrant persona. I made sure that Alton's character transformation was not only visually stunning but also true to the legendary musician's flamboyant style.

TRANFORMING

Richard Roxburgh

For Richard Roxburgh, playing Elvis' father Vernon, historical accuracy was paramount. Extensive research and testing went into creating the perfect makeup design.

My weapon of choice? Airbrushing. This technique allowed for subtle shading and highlighting, transforming Richard's face into Vernon's with remarkable precision. It was a process that demanded a keen eye and a light touch.

TRANFORMING

Kate Mulvany

Similarly, the transformation of Kate Mulvany into her character required me to use a combination of prosthetics and subtle makeup techniques to enhance Kate's features, ensuring a seamless and believable mature character. The hairstyle was carefully designed to reflect the character's personality, with every curl and wave meticulously placed.

Some of the challenges were from matching the exact skin tones and textures to ensuring the makeup held up under the intense lighting and long shooting hour to captivate her character on screen to make it truly unforgettable.
